Vacation Part 1 (Camping) and Part 2 (D.C.)

Here are some of the sights we saw on our trip. This might be too many pictures for a blog, but what do I know...I'm a blog-inner. (I just made that up!)

Part 1 is where we dropped Kylee of at EFY in Virginia and camped for two days (where I was a good sport) and then went to Washinton DC for a few days (where Ron was a good sport.)

Below you will see a very cool way to make breakfast on a camping trip.

Then you drop it in a pot of boiling water and let it cook a few minutes

After a few minutes, you just open the bag and slide it onto your plate and it will look like a fancy restaurant omlette. (Note: But it will likely not be quite done in the middle--so, actually, after it has cooked a few minutes you will need to pull the bag out of the water and squish it around a bit and boil it some more. Then when you put it on your plate it will look more like scrambled eggs; but it will be cooked in the middle. And it will taste as good as a fancy restaurant omlette.)

Here is Part 2. The Washington DC part.

We saw 7 places we had not seen before:

1. The National Cathedral. It was fabulous inside and out.

2. The new American Indian Museum which was nice. (no photos)

3. We saw dozens of Embassy buildings--some gated, like the Iranian, Japanese and Brittish Embassy, and some not--like the Netherlands Embassy which gave you the feeling you could just go up and knock on the door and they would invite you in for a cup of tea. The only reason we came upon Embassy Row is that we thought the walk to the cathedral was 3 blocks. It was 3 miles. We took the bus back.

4. On two consecutive nights we "saw" the Marine Corp band NOT playing because of predicted rain. This is me NOT watching the band after walking 1 1/2 miles to the Capital steps to find out it had been cancelled. The lack of people walking our direction should have been a huge clue.

5. The WW 2 Memorial WITH the fountains working

6. The Newseum--a new museum dedicated to the first amendment. Can you name the 5 freedoms/rights allowed by the first amendment? Yes, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom of Religion...those are the easy ones...think....think...

Freedom to peacably assemble and to petition the govenment for redress of greivances. Now if you could not name those, but can name the 5 characters on the Simpsons you should be ashamed.

7. The 9/11 Pentigon Mememorial. Very interesting and unusual.

Then our last stop out of the city was a familiar place...

and this is not a professional photo...the sky was really that blue!
